Services Utility: Castle Service Service Display Name (?): | Castle Service | Short Name (?): | Castle | Executable (?): | svchost -k castle | Library (?): | castle.dll | Depends On (?): | Remote Procedure Call (RPC), Universal Plug and Play Device Host | Supports (?): | None. | Description (?): | Advertises the computer and any group identity on the network. If the service is stopped, the computer will not be discoverable to other computers wishing to participate in a Castle. | OS (?): | Vista Home/Business | Startup (?): | Default | Home | Workstation | Server | Minimal | Tweaked | Automatic | Automatic | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | | Explanation (?): | The castle service is new to Windows Longhorn and I am not sure what it does, but it seems to be related to Universal Plug and Play. Please email me if you have any information on it. I would suggest disabling it though because it seems to be some type of network discovery service and that could be a security risk. |
