Services Utility: Performance Logs and Alerts Service Display Name (?): | Performance Logs and Alerts | Short Name (?): | SysmonLog | Executable (?): | smlogsvc.exe | Library (?): | None. | Depends On (?): | None. | Supports (?): | None. | Description (?): | Collects performance data from local or remote computers based on preconfigured schedule parameters, then writes the data to a log or triggers an alert. If this service is stopped, performance information will not be collected. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. | OS (?): | 2000 Professional, XP Home/Professional, Vista Home/Business, 2000 Server, Server 2003, Vista Server | Startup (?): | Default | Home | Workstation | Server | Minimal | Tweaked | Automatic | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | Disabled | | Explanation (?): | The performance logs and alerts service is a system tracking feature for Windows that allows you to monitor system vitals. It allows you to set up tracking events that monitor, log, and trigger alerts when specific conditions are met by counters. This means that you can do such thing as log CPU usage. It can even be set to log alerts if specified conditions are met or exceeded, or to send an event through the alerter service, or to execute a program. This service is very powerful, but unless you're a developer or an administrator you will find little use for this service. Set this service to manual if you do not need it, and set it to automatic if you do. |
