Explanation (?): | The TCP/IP netBIOS helper service provides the NT LAN manager with the ability to resolve and connect to NetBIOS names through the universal naming convention (UNC). This means that NetBIOS over TCP/IP will not work, and as such file shares through NetBIOS names will be unavailable. However, this is a legacy service and isn't entirely needed as DNS and direct IPs can be used to connect to a shared computer. If you disable this service then you may not be able to share files or printers, and you may not be able to connect to shared files or printers. But, I doubt it would have impact on many other components of Windows. If you do not use Windows filesharing then you do not need this service. If you do not wish to use this feature then I suggest you set it to manual. |
