Explanation (?): | The upload manager service provides troubleshooting through a Windows feature called Online Device Help. When a new device is detected that is not provided on the built-in Windows driver database or through Windows Update the Online Device Help system collects anonymous information pertaining to the device, such as the PNPID, to Microsoft. This is accomplished through this service and is destined for port 80. The information that is retrieved from Microsoft could notify you where to download drivers for your dervice, or tell you when it will be supported. This service can safely be disabled at the loss of this optional functionality, and has been removed in service pack 2 (SP2) of Windows XP. Otherwise this service should be set to automatic. |
